That's a graphical sacrifice I'm more than willing to make for a gameplay reason, but that gameplay benefit didn't materialize. Capcom: Infinite offers very good and fun gameplay, but the game lacks in content, especially if compared to a lot of other beatem ups you.
I wouldn't complain about it nearly as much if not for the bullshit narrative of "we get that you don't like the graphics, but the gameplay is sick!" that Infinite fans push to this day, completely ignoring that folks also have gameplay reasons to not like it.Īnd gameplay reasons that could tie to graphics as well, because my first reaction when I saw how the game looked and all of the reused stuff from 3 was "well, then they must be going the Marvel 2 route, and we'll have an insane roster". We dont have any real information but there was a bunch of rumours/leaks before the game launched that Capcom wasnt happy with being rushed into making an MVC. That's not to say they can't try doing that, I honestly love how Capcom fighting games always reinvent themselves with each entry, but this one wasn't for me. Custom assist is what Skullgirls does.Īt the end of the day, I'm not looking for a tag game, I'm looking for a 3v3 with assists. It's not a question of 'Can they?' it's a question of 'Will they?' and the disparity between their fighting games and their other properties is so at odds that, even if they have complete control over their next fighting game, I genuinely don't know which of the two sides they'll follow.I don't have extremely deep reasons to give because I didn't enjoy Infinite enough to put any time on it, didn't even buy the game myself, so it's a simple matter of preference:Īs much as Infinite fans would try to fool you into believing, tag isn't custom assist, tag is tag. I really hope Capcom's FG division sees a return to form because from the stuff they do well I can tell they have the talent, they just need to show a willing to adapt a mindset and a marketing strategy that doesn't leave their audience feeling like they're being taken for a ride, pardon the pun. I wanted to touch on that last part because the visual aspects of this game has been something that has been. Say what you will about SFV, MVCI, or SFxT, if Street Fighter 6 or a new VS game was announced today and genuinely looked really good people would go crazy because their properties are so beloved that the connection goes beyond the shakey execution of one or two games. Capcom: Infinite has been the subject of controversy in the past year due to many factors such as the uninteresting roster, lack of X-Men, expensive DLC practices and overall poor presentation.
It's precisely because they've made such great games that it hurts so many people less than them not being able to make a good game it seems more like mismanagement and wasted potential is at play. Many of the characters seemed of have gained extra details such as wrinkles, eye shadows, veins and realistic irises. I hope they acknowledge that and use it to give those people something truly great with their next game rather than to coast off their desperation and good will with a game mired with problems at launch. If nothing else, Capcom has one of the most valuable things there is a lot of people are willing to forgive them at the drop of a hat if they just make a solid game.įor all their blunders and stumbles they've had such a rich history of fantastic fighting games that people desperately want them to succeed because they know they have the resources and talent to do better.
I don't know if we'll see a Marvel Vs game so soon after Infinite's failure, but I really hope it doesn't mark the end of the series forever. I'm in the boat that really hopes they can take what they've learned from the treatment DMC5 and RE2 received and make a fighting game that reflects that sort of care. Capcom's fighting game division is one of the biggest mysteries to me right now, because it's so up in the air which way their next game is going to go.
